Bird Watching is one of the most interesting wildlife safari experience in Uganda

There are over 10,000 species of birds estimated on planet earth. Uganda is a bird watching paradise with 1,061 species which represents 60% of all birds in Africa and 11% in the world.

Few places match that diversity and birding trips around Uganda offer a rewarding experience. When on a safari to Uganda, birders should never miss visiting key tropical birding sites with unique species. The popular birds of Uganda include grey crested crane (the national bird), the shoebill stork, Rwenzori turaco, green breasted pitta, African green broadbill, Puvel’s illadopsis, short tailed warbler, the lammergeyer Uganda’s endemic bird found in Mount Elgon national park. Important sites include Bwindi impenetrable forest national park boasts 90% of the Albertine rift endemics and was voted number one birding destination in 2012 by African birding club. Semuliki valley has over 100 Congo basin forest bird species not found anywhere else in East Africa, Kibale forest national park, Bigodi wetland, Queen Elizabeth national park, Kidepo valley national park, Mabamba swamp, Rwenzori mountains national park, Entebbe botanical gardens and Murchison falls national park. The best way to experience birdlife in one of the sites is arranging a birding trip. Some places require use of canoes, boat cruises, kayaks and nature walks.
